SnaPatch requires a number of settings to be provided so it can function correctly. Below are the key requirements.
- SQL server and database
- Configuration Manager
- VMware vCenter server/s
- SCVMM server (Microsoft System Centre Virtual Machine Manager)
- Service Account
- Email server and recipients
There are also a considerable amount of options and preferences that may be configured to suit your needs.
SQL / Database
SnaPatch relies heavily on the information contained within the SCCM database. You must provide the connection mode, server name or IP address and database name.
You must also provide credentials to allow SnaPatch to read from the database.
SnaPatch communicates and interacts with the Configuration Manager server. In order to accomplish this, it requires the details of your configuration manager server along with its computer name or IP address, site code and credentials with enough permissions to allow it to create collections, folders, update groups and deploy updates.
VMware vCenter / SCVMM
One of the key features of SnaPatch is its ability to take snapshots of virtual servers prior to deploying any patches to it. For this to function you must provide the details of all your vCenter and SCVMM servers. It also requires an account with enough permissions to take and delete snapshots.
A service account is required and used to probe target machines to determine the status of updates. This account must be a member of the domain and a member of the local administrators group on all target machines.
The service account may also be used to access Configuration Manager, vCenter and SQL.
To receive email notifications you must provide the address of an email server configured for SMTP relay. It also requires a port number, SSL settings and credentials allowing SMTP connections.
You may also configure up to 2 recipient addresses.
